Melanie Collup
starring as
KATHARINE HARTGROVE
(2005 Spring Tour)

Since the play opened in 1991, Melanie Collup is the seventh actress to portray  Letters from the Front's feisty but big-hearted focal character Katharine Hartgrove.  Seven is supposed to be a lucky number but luck had nothing to do with Melanie being chosen to literally carry Katharine's torch.  Her ability to depict subtle shadings of warmth, strength, integrity and compassion made her a natural choice for the role.

Melanie started out in community theatre in Northern Nevada.  Some of her favorite roles have been Jean in Emma's Child, and Bella in Lost in Yonkers, for which she was awarded the Blythe Award for Best Actress.

While in Reno, she taught drama to 7th and 8th graders (as if just being 13 isn't drama enough!).  Since moving to New York City in '03, Melanie has performed in three off-off-Broadway productions: Searching for Hamlet, Inner View, and Sarah and Lorraine.

Being a "military brat" herself, she was thrilled to be stepping into the shoes of Katharine Hartgrove, the quintessential military mom, while making her touring debut in Letters from the Front.
